LIFE AQUATIC BAND

Life Aquatic Band (LAB) are an indie-fusion group from Sheffield. In February 2025, they recorded with Mercury Prize Winner Shuta Shinoda at the Hackney Studios London and in 2024 they won a residency at the Glass House, Gateshead as part of the summer studios programme.

With regular plays on Radio 6, they have been described as "upbeat, sun-drenched and life-affirming music" - BBC Radio 6.

KATE GRIFFIN AND MATCHUME ZANGO

Kate Griffin and Matchume Zango are forging a new cross-cultural collaboration celebrating the universal power of traditional music. They both bring echoes of their respective traditions to a vibrant new sound full of world rhythms, contemporary song-writing and joy. Ben can be seen performing as part of their touring show, featuring Matchume’s arsenal of percussion including timbila, xitende, mbira, and congas, Kate’s banjo, and a supporting trio of Evan Carson on drums, Ben Evans on Bass and Ford Collier on low whistle and guitar.

Assembly Trio

Ben is a founding member of Sheffield-based contemporary jazz trio Assembly Trio, featuring Alex Bishop (Guitar), Ben Evans (Bass) and Will Shaw (Drums). Assembly Trio released their EP 'The View From Here' in 2024, following on from their debut album 'Bloom' which was released in 2022.
 
​Described by Jez Matthews (Director of award-winning Jazz at the Lescar) as a "dynamic jazz trio with a captivating and ever-evolving sound. Rooted in contemporary jazz, their music is steeped in interaction with vibrant originals, grooves, unexpected twists and really memorable tunes."

OTHER PROJECTS

TORI SHEARD

Ben can be heard on singer-songwriter Tori Sheard's EP "Edge of the Earth". He performed with Tori at venues across the UK, with Nottingham's Rock City and Splendour Festival being particular highlights.

Ben also worked with singer-songwriter Beau Presley, performing with him for BBC Introducing. 

THEATRE

Ben worked with award-winning Colla Voce Theatre Company from its inception in 2016 up until lockdown. Forged in Sheffield, the company specialised in new musical theatre and comedy. Ben worked on their productions of The Last Five Years (2016), Miscast (2017) andThe Alternativity (2019). He also played in the band of their original show Buried: A New Musical, which received five-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival two years in a row and went to the International Musical Theatre Festival in Czech Republic. For their production of You and I, Ben co-arranged the soundtrack and played in the band for their performances at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Lowry Artist Development Programme, and the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester. Ben also performed in the band for Departures (2016) at the Pleasance Theatre, London with Matt Malone. 

During his three years at the University of Sheffield, Ben played in the bands of over 15 productions with both the University of Sheffield Performing Arts Society and Sheffield University Theatre Company. This included Wind in the Willows (2015), Sweeney Todd (2015), Evita (2015), Urinetown (2016), The Producers (2017), The Addams Family, (2019) and Spring Awakening (2019).
